Injury Report: Chiefs’ DT Xavier Williams, S Jordan Lucas Questionable in Week 1

Matt Derrick September 6, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs safety Jordan Lucas And defensive tackle Xavier Williams are questionable for Sunday's season opener at Jacksonville, but the Jaguars face much greater injury concerns as they prepare to tangle with a revamped Kansas City defense.

The Jaguars list starting left tackle Cam Robinson as doubtful with a left knee injury, but head coach Doug Marrone indicated that backup Will Richardson would start in his place Sunday. That puts the Jaguars offensive line in a precarious position protecting the blindside of quarterback Nick Foles.

Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark said he had looked forward to facing off against Robinson, but he wasn't prepared to let up off the gas in his first start with his new club.

"Myself just being able to go out there, no matter who it is, whether it's Cam or whether it's his backup or his backup, I'm giving my all," Clark said. "I don't push the brakes for nobody. At the end of the day, everybody is a victim in my eyes."

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Lucas sat out practice Friday with back spasms while Williams was ill. Neither issue appears serious, however.

"We should be OK there," Reid said.

Three other Chiefs practiced in full Friday, but remain on the club's daily injury report. That includes safety Tyrann Mathieu, who has returned to a full workload after sustaining a shoulder injury against Pittsburgh in the team's second preseason game. Tight end Deon Yelder suffered an ankle sprain in the same contest, and missed the final two games of the preseason. He practiced in full this week, however, and appears availability for duty if needed Sunday.
