Injury Report: Chiefs Battle Ravens Missing Three Offensive Starters

Matt Derrick September 20, 2019

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs' offensive depth faces a test against Baltimore Sunday with left tackle Eric Fisher, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Damien Williams ruled out with injuries.

Fisher left last week's game after four snaps with a core muscle injury, and appears likely to miss an extended period of the season. Cam Erving stepped in for Fisher last week, and he expects to start at left tackle on Sunday.

Head coach Andy Reid sees the Chiefs have options at left tackle thanks to offensive line coach Andy Heck stressing versatility among his position group.

“We're lucky we have guys that can play the tackle position that are also guards and centers,” Reid said. “Not a lot of teams have that. But (Heck) starts at day one and he rotates those guys at all the different spots. If you get a situation like this, Cam jumps out there and no problems.”

The blow of losing Williams in the backfield is softened with LeSean McCoy ending the week with a full practice on Friday. He sat out Wednesday's workout with an ankle injury and was limited in practice Thursday. The team list McCoy as questionable for Sunday, but he does expect to play.

“(McCoy) got better every day,” Reid said. “He actually had a good day today, so that was a a plus.”

The Chiefs are also confident backups Damien Williams and Darwin Thompson can contribute as well. The rookie Thompson received only one touch in each of the first two games, but Reid does worry about pressing him into duty if needed.

“We're confident he can jump in and do that,” Reid said. “It's not an issue, it's just a matter of getting into that flow of it.”

Hill will miss his second game while rehabbing a sternoclavicular injury. Hill this week ditched the arm sling he had been wearing and was in the locker room dribbling a basketball with both hands on Wednesday. The team still has no firm timetable for his return.

The Ravens will play without cornerback Jimmy Smith (knee) and safety Brynden Trawick (elbow). They also listed tight end Mark Andrews (foot) and DL/FB Pat Ricard (back) questionable. Andrews leads the Ravens with 16 catches and ranks second on the club with 220 yards receiving. He has become quarterback Lamar Jackson's preferred target in critical conversion situations.
