KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The league-wide recognition continues for Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston.
Houston notched 4 ½ sacks, seven tackles, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in Week Three’s 26-16 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.
And that effort earned him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced on Wednesday.
The third-year pro now has a league-leading 7.5 sacks, a total tied for second-most in the first three games of an NFL season since 1982.
Houston’s recognition marks his second award of the season through three games.
He also earned Defensive Player of the Week in Week One’s 28-2 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Houston becomes the second Chiefs linebacker to win two Defensive Player of the Week awards in one season.
He joins Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas, who accomplished the feat in Weeks Six and 11 of the 1991 season.
