Spencer Ware's ankle surgery leading the Colts to place him in the inactive PUP list may have cost the Chiefs a compensatory selection in the 2020 draft. As Over the Cap's Nick Korte points out, if the Colts as expected reach an injury settlement with Ware allowing him to play elsewhere this season, Ware will no longer figure into the compensation formula. Even if Ware signs elsewhere, the new contract would come after the compensation deadline.
The Chiefs lost four qualifying unrestricted free agents: Mitch Morse, Steven Nelson, Demetrius Harris and Chris Conley. But they also signed four: Tyrann Mathieu, Alex Okafor, Damien Wilson and Bashaud Breeland. Those transactions cancel each other out in terms of the compensation formula. https://twitter.com/nickkorte/status/1158130686995439618
