KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs won’t be at full strength on special teams for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Wide receiver/punt returner De’Anthony Thomas has been ruled out and his status is “non-football related,” the Chiefs announced Saturday in a short 22-word email to media members.
The reason behind the non-football related status is unclear.
Thomas, who missed the past four games while recovering from a concussion, returned to full practices the past week and appeared on track to resume his role as the primary punt returner.
The second-year pro will now miss a fifth straight game.
Wide receiver Frankie Hammond Jr., should continue as the punt returner in Thomas’ absence, with running back Knile Davis likely to continue handling kickoff returns.
