DT Chris Jones, WR Kadarius Toney Questionable for Chiefs vs. Texans

DT Chris Jones, WR Kadarius Toney Questionable for Chiefs vs. Texans

Matt Derrick December 16, 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs tabbed defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Kadarius Toney as questionable for the team’s game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, but it’s not an injury that landed Jones on the team’s injury report, according to head coach Andy Reid.

“Chris Jones was sick today, so he didn’t practice,” Reid said. “Everybody else practiced.”

That list includes wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury. Toney was limited in all three practices this week, and the Chiefs have proceeded cautiously with the injury thus far. He was listed as questionable last week against Denver before the club scratched him from the game on Saturday.

“We’ll just see how it made it through today and where we go from there,” Reid said.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman, whom the club designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, doesn’t appear on the injury report since he is not yet on the active roster. Reid indicated that Hardman is unlikely to be activated this weekend.

“I’m going to tell you with him though, I’m leaning away from him playing this week,” Reid said. “But he did have a good week of practice.”

With Hardman likely unavailable, if Toney doesn’t play Sunday the Chiefs will likely use the standard elevation on practice squad Ihmir Smith-Marsette for this week.

The team listed Patrick Mahomes on the injury report this week with a right-hand injury but he was a full participant in practice this week with no limitations. Reid indicated Friday it was a thumb injury bothering Mahomes

“There’s no concern,” Reid said. “He’s doing good, he threw all week.”
