SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — With the bulk of the pomp and circumstance of Super Bowl week behind them, the Chiefs stepped up their preparations with a 93-minute practice Wednesday in which nearly all of the active roster participate in full roles.
Only wide receiver Kadarius Toney was limited on Wednesday. He’s been dealing with an ongoing hamstring issue much of the season and also tweaked his ankle in the AFC Championship game.
Both Toney and receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) were both active over the course of practice, according to pool reporter Connor Orr. Head coach Andy Reid reported positive results for players on the injury report, a group that also includes quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“All the guys that were banged up, I thought, moved around well today,” Reid told the pool reporter. “I talked to them and they said they felt well.”
Regarding Mahomes specifically, Reid said his quarterback performed well on Wednesday and has handled everything in the game plan without issues.
“He’s an amazing guy,” Reid said. “Half of it is how strong he is in the mind. He wills himself to do things and doesn’t give himself any excuses. You saw it. You saw him roll to the right, roll to the left, taking snaps from under center. All the things that are a little tougher.”
Four other players rounded out Kansas City’s injury report. Linebacker Willie Gay (shoulder), right guard Trey Smith (ankle) and running backs Isiah Pacheco (wrist) and Jerick McKinnon (ankles) were all full participants.
One notable name not on the injury report: cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on Monday. He’s received a full bill of health from the team’s athletic training staff and has no more restrictions on his availability.
Wednesday’s practice was a 10-10-10 practice, which consists of 10 plays for the first-team offense, 10 plays for the first-team defense and a 10-minute special teams period in rotation. It’s a typical late-season practice format for the club, which will conduct a longer, more intense practice Thursday before finishing with another 10-10-10 session on Friday. The team will conduct a final walkthrough on Saturday.
The Philadelphia Eagles injury report included five players, including right tackle Lane Johnson (groin/rest), backup center Cam Jurgens (hip/rest) and nickel back Avonte Maddox (toe/rest).
The team conducted a 70-minute uptempo walkthrough practice Wednesday morning, according to pool reporter Lindsay Jones. Head coach Nick Sirianni plans for a longer practice on Thursday without pads in anticipation of a physical matchup on Sunday.
“We want to keep them fresh, that’s really what we want,” Sirianni said.
