RIVERSIDE, Mo. – Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested Sunday and charged with speeding and possession of a controlled substance, FOX 4 reports.
Citing Riverside police, FOX 4 reports Bowe was pulled over after police clocked him driving 48 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The police officer detected “a strong odor of marijuana” from the vehicle and asked Bowe along with the passengers to exit the vehicle, according to FOX 4.
The officer looked inside the vehicle with a K-9 and discovered a black bag with Bowe’s wallet and two containers believed to be 6.6 and 3.8 grams of marijuana, leading to Bowe being placed under arrest, FOX 4 reports.
The K-9 alerted to a second black backpack and the subsequent search revealed a container believed to hold 4.2 grams of marijuana, according to FOX 4.
According to FOX 4, a passenger in the vehicle claimed the backpack as his. A search of the passenger prior to being placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance resulted in the discovery of two hand-rolled cigarettes believed to contain 2.2 grams of marijuana, FOX 4 reports.

The Chiefs are aware of Bowe’s situation, but have no comment at this time.
The team is off Tuesday and returns to practice on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, if Bowe is unavailable for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, the Chiefs have second-year wide receiver Junior Hemingway next on the depth chart.
