Chiefs Without RB Darrel Williams, CB Rashad Fenton as Prep Starts vs. Buffalo in AFC Divisional Round

Chiefs Without RB Darrel Williams, CB Rashad Fenton as Prep Starts vs. Buffalo in AFC Divisional Round

Matt Derrick January 19, 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs running back Darrel Williams and cornerback Rashad Fenton were the only players not on the practice field Wednesday as head coach Andy Reid’s club began on-field workouts for this Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

Reid said the back issue that caused Fenton to be a late scratch in the Wild Card game against Pittsburgh was “getting better.” Williams continues dealing with a toe injury that limited him to eight snaps against the Steelers.

“Trying to let it rest up, see if it calms down a little bit,” Reid explained.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who has missed the last three games due to a shoulder injury, was a full participant in Wednesday’s light workout. The running back worked out last Wednesday as well but did not practice on Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow’s padded practice should offer a better barometer regarding Edwards-Helaire’s potential return this weekend.

“Yeah, he moved around well,” Reid said of Edwards-Helaire’s Thursday workout. “We’ll see tomorrow and how he back-to-back sees things. I don’t want to say anything – I said it last week and I was wrong. We’ll just see he does as we go forward.”

The Bills had a much shorter injury report on Wednesday, listing only defensive end Mario Addison as limited with a shoulder injury.

The injury situation differs greatly from back when the two teams met in Week 5, which ended in a 38-20 Bills’ victory. The Chiefs were without Chris Jones and Charvarius Ward in that game and Frank Clark was continuing to work his way back from a hamstring injury.

“I think the neat part about this game that’s coming up here is that both teams are relatively healthy,” Reid said. “At this time of the year that’s a great thing. It should lead to a heck of a game. I know the guys that didn’t play look forward to the challenge of playing. You love this kind of competition and these kind of games.”
