KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs fans shopping for last-minute holiday gifts might turn Dec. 23 into a whole new Red Friday experience, with the team’s announcement that tickets for a potential AFC wild card or divisional home playoff game go on sale to the general public that day.
Playoff ticket sales will have a staggered launch date for distinct groups of ticket buyers. The priority presale begins for Jackson County taxpayers Dec. 21, followed by presales for season ticket holders starting Dec. 21. Tickets go on sale for the general public Dec. 23.
Demand for Chiefs playoff tickets could reach extraordinary levels. The Chiefs last hosted a home playoff game Jan.9, 2011 in a 30-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The team last hosted a divisional playoff game Jan. 11, 2004 in a 38-31 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Chiefs last home playoff win came in the wild card round on Jan. 8, 1994, a 27-24 overtime win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ticket sales for the general public go online at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23. Tickets may be purchased on the team’s website at www.chiefs.com, by phone at (800) 745-3000 or at the Arrowhead Stadium ticket office.
The ticket office is located between Founder’s Plaza and the Hy-Vee gate on the northwest side of the stadium.
Jackson County taxpayers have access to priority presale tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Arrowhead Stadium ticket office. Taxpayers must provide a photo identification and a paid 2015 Jackson County personal property tax receipt.
Chiefs season ticket holders had an opportunity to reserve playoff tickets at the beginning of the season. They face a Dec. 16 deadline to finalize payment for tickets.
A presale for season ticket members to purchase additional playoff tickets begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22. Members of the team’s Chiefs Kingdom Rewards program can purchase tickets beginning at noon that day.
Single-game ticket prices for the divisional round range from $115 to $155 for upper level tickets. Lower level tickets range from $145 to $245. Suite level tickets start at $210 and range up to $345. A team spokesperson said season ticket holders are guaranteed the lowest possible price, which may be substantially less than single-game prices.
Customers will be charged for the value of the divisional playoff ticket. If the Chiefs host a wild card home gain, the team will refund the difference. All tickets will be delivered electronically and be available to print one week before the game.
If the Chiefs reach the AFC Championship game, tickets will go on sale to the public once the game is confirmed.
