KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs signed rookie wide receiver Jeret Smith to a contract, a source familiar with the situation confirmed Friday with ChiefsDigest.com.
The Chiefs later announced the signing.
The 5-10, 211-pound Smith, who played collegiately at McMurry, attended the recent minicamp on a tryout basis. He also attended the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis in May.
Smith, a native of Abilene, Texas, finished his college career as McMurry’s leader in yards receiving (2,729 yards) on 181 receptions, which ranked second in school history.
The Chiefs now have 12 wide receivers on the offseason roster ahead of training camp in late July.
Smith’s signing also brings the Chiefs’ roster back to 90 players.
