KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The business side of football is officially taken care of with all members of the Chiefs’ 2016 draft class.
The Chiefs signed rookie cornerback KeiVarae Russell to a contract, according to Friday’s NFL Transactions report. Russell is the last of the Chiefs’ nine draft picks to sign.
Financial terms of the deal of were not available.
The 5-11, 192-pound Russell joined the Chiefs as a third-round pick (74th overall) out of Notre Dame, where he totaled 169 tackles (125 solo), five interceptions, 12 passes defensed and 1 ½ sacks.
Russell was the first of three cornerbacks the Chiefs selected in the draft, joining fourth-round pick Eric Murray and sixth-round pick D.J. White.
The Chiefs need to identify a starter at right cornerback and nickel cornerback, and Russell, Murray and White will join the competition.
