ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Chiefs on Monday announced the signing of linebacker Ja’Gared Davis, and waived rookie wide receiver Adam Drake to make room on the 90-man roster.
The signing of Davis addressed depth as the Chiefs deal with injuries to linebackers Josh Mauga (heel), D.J. Alexander (ankle) and Justin March (knee). Neither player practiced Monday.
Davis previously spent a brief stint on the Chiefs practice squad in 2014, originally joining the team on Nov. 24 days after being waived by the New England Patriots.
Washington signed Davis from the Chiefs practice squad to its active roster on Dec. 9, before recently releasing him to accommodate room on the roster for the signing of linebacker Junior Galette.
The 6-2, 235-pound Davis entered the league in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Methodist with the Houston Texans.
The 24-year-old Davis has appeared in seven career games (four with the Patriots), recording five tackles (three solo).
Drake originally signed with the Chiefs on Aug. 8. He appeared in the preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, playing on 13 snaps without recording a catch.
