KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Depth along the outside of the defensive line arrived at the start of free agency Wednesday afternoon.
The Chiefs signed outside linebacker/defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi, his agency, SportsTrusts Advisors, announced on Twitter. Massaquoi’s agency confirmed the signing with ChiefsDigest.com and The Topeka Capital-Journal when reached by telephone.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the Chiefs have not announced the transaction.
The 6-2, 264-pound Massaquoi originally entered the league in 2012 out of Troy as a fifth-round pick with the Atlanta Falcons before being waived in February 2015. He spent time with the Tennessee Titans last summer, but did not make the final roster.
Massaquoi, who turns 28 in May, has appeared in 39 career games with seven starts, totaling 68 tackles (45 solo), six sacks and two passes defensed.
The Chiefs had a hole to fill on the defensive line and at the outside linebacker position, and the addition of the versatile Massaquoi addresses the need.
Defensive ends Jaye Howard and Mike DeVito, along with outside linebackers Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses are currently unrestricted free agents.
