Chiefs RB Ronald Jones Active Over Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Super Bowl LVII

Chiefs RB Ronald Jones Active Over Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Super Bowl LVII

Matt Derrick February 12, 2023

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Chiefs will carry six wide receivers and three tight ends in Sunday’s Super Bowl showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles, while running back Clyde Edwards Helaire is on the inactive list for the final game of the season.

With no game-day designations entering Sunday, all seven players on the inactive list are healthy scratches. The full Chiefs inactive list in Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles:

  • QB Shane Buechele
  • RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
  • TE Blake Bell
  • OL Darian Kinnard
  • OL Austin Reiter
  • DE Malik Herring
  • DE Joshua Kaindoh

The team also elevated wide receiver Marcus Kemp from the practice squad on Saturday, providing them with a sixth receiver for depth and adding an experience hand on special teams. The Chiefs will also have JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore available tonight.

Four of the players on the inactive list are not much of a surprise – Buechele, Kinnard, Herring and Kaindoh have been among the reserves most of the season. Reiter was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday serving as a precaution toward any last-minute injury issues but also as a reward for loyal service to the club.

Bell was also inactive for the AFC Championship game after tight end Jody Fortson returned from injured reserve. If injuries hit the tight end group, fullback Michael Burton can provide relief snaps.

The Chiefs activated Edwards-Helaire from injured reserve this week, igniting the speculation that he could return for his first action since suffering an ankle injury in Week 11. Head coach Andy Reid instead opted for Jones, who has played 40 snaps in seven games with Edwards-Helaire absent.

The Eagles also enter Super Bowl LVII with a relatively healthy roster. Only backup receiver and return specialist Britain Covey was listed as questionable but will play in the game. The complete list of inactive players for the Eagles:

  • QB Ian Book
  • RB Trey Sermon
  • WR Greg Ward
  • CB Josiah Scott
  • LB Kyron Johnson
  • S Anthony Harris
  • P Brett Kern

Kern is inactive with the return of regular punter Arryn Siposs from injured reserve.
