ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Chiefs running back has entered the league's concussion protocol with a concussion. There is no timetable yet on his return to training camp.
West left practice on Saturday after taking a hit to the helmet during the team's first padded practice of camp.
The team carries a deep running back stable but injuries are now testing that depth. Starter Kareem Hunt remains limited with a tight hamstring and has set out most team drills in camp. Backup Spencer Ware is returning from season-ending knee surgery from last year and the team wants to limit his workload early in camp.
Ware and Damien Williams shared reps with the first-team offense on Sunday.
Hunt continues to take part in some individual drills but spent most of Sunday's practice working with trainers on the sideline.
Cornerback Keith Reaser left practice early with a quad injury. Trainers tended to his left leg in the medical tent before he walked back to the locker room.
Linebacker Reggie Ragland (knee), wide receiver De'Anthony Thomas (leg) and cornerback Ashton Lampkin (knee) did not practice in addition to West. Ragland remains on the non-football injury list.
Coaches provided Thomas a day off for rest as he returns from surgery for a broken leg in January.
