KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney didn’t practice this week as the Chiefs began their preparations for Super Bowl LVIII, but the club listed the left guard as questionable with a strained right pectoral on their Friday injury report.
Head coach Andy Reid on Thursday didn’t rule out the possibility of Thuney playing next Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
“Making progress, not counted out,” Reid said about Thuney. “We’ll just see how he does.”
The injury report includes estimated game-day designations for players with injuries. Wide receiver Skyy Moore (knee) and OT Prince Tega Wanogho (quad), who have been designated to return from injured reserve, are also listed as questionable. Defensive end Charles Omenihu, who suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship win over Baltimore, has already been ruled out for the game.
No other players on the active roster carry game-day tags on Friday’s report, indicative of a relatively healthy squad heading into Super Bowl week. Defensive tackle Chris Jones (quad) and running back Isiah Pacheco (toe/ankle) were limited during practice the past two days but are estimated as ready to play as of now. The same is true for linebacker Willie Gay, who returned as a full participant the past two days as he returns from neck spasms.
The Chiefs have until 3 p.m. central time Wednesday to return Moore to the active roster or keep him on injured reserve for the Super Bowl. Wanogho was designated to return from injured reserve on Jan. 24, which means his practice window closes after the game; the Chiefs are not required to move him to the active roster until after the season concludes.
