Chiefs’ preseason opener snap counts: S Eric Berry in on 8 plays

Free safety Eric Berry returned to live action Saturday night less than a year after defeating Hodgkin lymphoma as the Chiefs defeated the Arizona Cardinals, 31-19, in the preseason opener.

While Berry was limited to eight snaps in the second quarter before he exited the game, the former first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection took nothing for granted.

“Everything counts,” Berry told reporters during his postgame media session. “Practices count. Meetings count. Walk-throughs count. I have been put in a position where I wished I could just come out and watch my teammates. The fact I am out here playing with them in this situation I take … everything is a blessing. I love football.”

The starters on both side of the ball saw limited action, with the first-team defense getting one series in the first quarter before giving way to the backup.

The Chiefs return to St. Joseph, Mo., and resume training camp practice Monday before wrapping up camp Wednesday. The Chiefs host the Seattle Seahawks at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday in preseason action.

Meanwhile, below is a breakdown of offensive, defensive and special teams snaps from Saturday night’s game, as pulled from the official game book.
