Chiefs’ Mitch Morse Out, Justin Houston, Eric Berry Doubtful vs. Bengals

Matt Derrick October 19, 2018

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Center Mitch Morse won't play Sunday night when the Cincinnati Bengals visit Arrowhead Stadium, and linebacker Justin Houston appears likely to miss his second-straight game as well.

But the other half dozen banged up Chiefs on the team's injury report look likely to play, according to head coach Andy Reid.

"We'll see how everybody does here as we go," Reid said after Friday's practice. "Right now thought everybody's ready to go, they practiced today."

Reid ruled out Morse as he remains in the league's concussion protocol. Houston continues recovering from a hamstring injury and is listed as doubtful, but he seems unlikely to suit up after sitting out practice all week.

With Morse on the sidelines, Jordan Devey will start in his place with Andrew Wylie expected to start at right guard. The Chiefs signed free agent lineman Jeff Allen do add depth this week.

Allen, who spent the first four seasons of his career in Kansas City before a two-year stint in Houston, spent the offseason and the first few weeks of the regular season on the sidelines. But Reid said the veteran seems to be rounding into playing shape quickly.

"We're not in pads so it's hard to tell, but for what I've seen he looked good and kind of got back in the swing," Reid said. "I don't think he's too far off of getting in there and rolling."

Safety Eric Murray remains on the injury report with an ankle sprain, but he practiced in full all week. Reid left the door open, however, that Jordan Lucas could start in his place after a solid performance at New England.

"We'll see how that works," Reid said of Murray's return. "We're just kind of getting him back in the swing right now and he's got a few things he's doing with that."

Linebacker Anthony Hitchens appeared on the injury report this week with a groin injury. The club listed him as limited in workouts on Thursday, but Reid expects him to start Sunday night.

"Yeah, he's practiced here, he's all right," Reid said

The Bengals have a lengthier injury report than the Chiefs with 15 players listed and a dozen missing at least some practice time this week. Center Billy Price remains out with a foot injury, along with tight end Tyler Kroft (foot) and defensive starters linebacker Nick Vigil (knee). CB Darqueze-Dennard and HB Giovani Bernard also won't play.

Safety Shawn Williams (concussion) missed practice time this week and remains questionable.
