KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs host the New York Giants for Monday Night Football in Week 8, and they will do so without linebacker Anthony Hitchens and defensive tackle Khalen Saunders.
Chris Jones, who missed practice Thursday and Friday for personal reasons, returned to a full work load on Saturday and expects to play Monday night. Jones is also listed with
Also expected to play is safety Tyrann Mathieu, who club listed as out with an illness on Friday. He practiced in full on Saturday as well.
Right tackle Mike Remmers (knee) and cornerback Charvarius Ward (foot) were limited in practice on Friday and are listed as questionable for Monday night.
Hitchens will miss his second-straight game with a triceps injury while Saunders is battling knee inflammation. Neither player practiced on Saturday.
Remmers has started the past two games at right tackle, and if he’s unable to play Lucas Niang would likely return to the right tackle spot. Ward returned last week after a four-game absence due to a quad injury and played 63% of defensive snaps against Tennessee.
The absence of Hitchens means another start at the middle linebacker spot for rookie Nick Bolton, who impressed coaches and teammates alike last week against Tennessee. Bolton tallied 15 total tackles while also calling the defense, a role in which fellow linebacker Willie Gay said he excelled.
“He’s special, for real,” Gay said on Saturday. “When I watch him, I just love to watch him because I was once a rookie and seeing a rookie that’s next level already, it’s special. I love seeing others guys play well and ball out. I get joy from that seeing him do his thing and take on that leadership role. He’s doing a a real good job.”
