KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs safety Eric Berry appears likely to miss another game with Sunday's matchup at the Pittsburgh, but Kansas City will likely see Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger under center across the line of scrimmage.
Berry did not practice again with the Chiefs on Friday. He has not practiced with the club since Aug. 11, but head coach Andy Reid says he continues making progress.
“No setback, it's all been good, all positive forward,” Reid said following Friday's practice session. "I am just going to keep it for you day-to-day and we will just see how it goes. He is trying his tail off. He is doing everything he can to make it right."
Reid did rule out rookie linebacker Ben Niemann, who suffered a strained left hamstring against the Chargers last week.
Roethlisberger was a full participant in practice on Friday after sitting out workouts on Wednesday and Thursday with a right elbow bruise.
With the quarterback returning to practice, other injuries among starters for the Steelers may loom larger for Pittsburgh on Sunday. Cornerback Joe Haden (hamstring) and right guard David DeCastro (hand) did not practice this week. Both players are listed as doubtful along with backup defensive end Tyson Alualu.
The potential absence of Haden or DeCastro impacts the Steelers significantly on both sides of the ball. Haden is the Steelers' top cornerback, and would likely draw the frequent assignment of keeping wide receiver Tyreek Hill in check. DeCastro factors significantly into the Pittsburgh run game would be key for the Steelers working against Chris Jones and Xavier Williams.
Haden and DeCastro appear game day decisions for the Steelers.
