KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Any hope for Chiefs left guard Ben Grubbs returning to the lineup in Week 11 have already been dashed.
The Chiefs on Wednesday ruled Grubbs (neck) as out for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers, marking the third straight game the ninth-year pro will miss since sustaining the injury in Week 7.
And given the region of the injury, it remains unclear if Grubbs, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, will return to action in the near future.
“Well, we don’t (know),” coach Andy Reid said. “But he is making progress and that’s a good thing as far as soreness or any of that.”
Reid, however, appeared optimistic while cautioning Grubbs’ status will depend on medical results.
“It’s headed in that positive direction,” Reid said, “but inevitably it will come back down to an MRI and that type of thing to make sure everything is OK.”
The Chiefs moved Jeff Allen from right tackle to Grubbs’ spot in Week 8 and Allen stayed there in Week 10 after the Week 9 bye, while Jah Reid manned the right tackle position the past two games.
