Chiefs Add WR Skyy Moore to Super Bowl Roster, Place DE Charles Omenihu on Injured Reserve

Chiefs Add WR Skyy Moore to Super Bowl Roster, Place DE Charles Omenihu on Injured Reserve

Matt Derrick February 7, 2024

LAS VEGAS — The Chiefs will have one more receiver available at their disposal in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII showdown against the San Francisco 49ers after activating wide receiver Skyy Moore from injured reserve Wednesday.

Moore landed on injured reserve Dec. 18 after injuring his knee in the team’s Week 15 win against the New England Patriots. The club designated Moore to return from injured reserve on Jan. 17, making Wednesday the last day of his 21-day practice window before the team had to return Moore to the active roster or leave him on injured reserve to finish the season.

In 14 appearances with two starts this season, Moore hauled in 21 catches for 211 yards and a score. He also had three rushes for 23 yards.

While there’s no guarantee the Chiefs will make Moore active on Sunday, his return gives the club additional depth and options in the event of any new injuries during Super Bowl Week. Moore’s return gives the Chiefs eight receivers on the active roster along with Rashee Rice, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Justin Watson, Richie James, Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross.

Like Moore, Toney hasn’t played since the team’s Week 15 contest at New England. Rice, Valdes-Scantling, Watson, James and Hardman have played in all three of the team’s postseason games while Ross played in two.

Omenihu suffered a torn ACL during the team’s AFC Championship victory against the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago and had already been ruled out for the Super Bowl Omenihu is in Las Vegas with the club, however.

The 26-year-old Omenihu delivered the best season of his career in 2023 after he arrived from the 49ers as a free agent during the offseason. Omenihu delivered career-highs with seven sacks and 28 tackles while also picking up 11 quarterback hits and batting two passes at the line of scrimmage. He played 404 snaps (56%) during the regular season despite missing the first six games of the campaign due to a suspension. In three postseason games this year, Omenihu had a sack, three tackles and a forced fumble.

The Chiefs are not expected to make any additional roster moves until Saturday when they may elevate two players from the practice squad. One of those players is expected to be defensive tackle Mike Pennel.
