KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs claimed cornerback Brandon Jones off waivers on Thursday from the San Diego Chargers.
The Chargers waived Jones, 24, on Wednesday to make room for former Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers, who signed a one-year contract with San Diego.
The addition of Jones puts the Chiefs’ roster at the league offseason maximum of 90 players. The Chiefs currently have 17 defensive backs ahead of training camp, with 11 being cornerbacks.
Listed at 6-1, 187 pounds, Jones originally entered the league in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers with the New England Patriots. He spent training camp with the Patriots before his release in late August.
The New York Giants signed Jones to the practice squad on Nov. 4 before terminating his contract on Nov. 26. Jones then joined the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad on Dec. 3. contract on Dec. 13, leading to the Chargers signing the former Scarlet Knight on Dec. 18.
Jones has not appeared in a regular-season game.
