KANSAS CITY, Mo. — AFC West games will be big games in 2022, and the NFL signaled as much during the first round of the draft with the announcement the Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 on Thursday night.
The home opener for the Chiefs on Sept. 15 will be the first game to air on the new NFL package on Amazon Prime Video. The NFL also announced that Chiefs Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez will be part of Amazon’s NFL broadcast. The rest of the team’s schedule will be announced on May 12.
Club president Mark Donovan said in a statement he’s excited for the team to be part of the inaugural Amazon Prime Video streaming event.
“We’re proud that Amazon took this opportunity to showcase our fans and the Arrowhead Experience when we host the Chargers for our home opener at GEHA Field this season and look forward to seeing the rest of our 2022 schedule next month,” Donovan said.
The Chiefs-Chargers game will air on a local over-the-air station in Kansas City, and the game will also stream live on Twitch. Other Chiefs fans outside the Kansas City viewing area will need an Amazon Prime Video subscription to watch the game.
Tickets for the Sept. 15 game will go on sale Friday morning starting at 8 a.m. for Jackson Count taxpayers followed by season ticket members at 10 a.m. Public sales begin at 10 a.m. Tickets will only be available for purchase at chiefs.com.
Tickets for the remainder of the team’s 2022 schedule will go on sale Friday, May 13 following the release of the complete NFL schedule on May 12.
