CB L’Jaris Sneed, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster Observers Again in Chiefs’ Friday Practice

Matt Derrick February 3, 2023

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four Chiefs players remained on the sideline Friday as the Chiefs continued their Super Bowl preparations at home with less than 48 hours remaining before their departure for Phoenix and their trip to Super Bowl LVII.

Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (concussion protocol) and wide receivers JuJu Smith Schuster (knee), Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring) did not take part in Friday’s workout that moved indoors due to colder temperatures in Kansas City.

During the Super Bowl bye week, teams must issue estimated game-day designations just as they would during a regular game week. The club listed Hardman as doubtful while the three receivers along with linebacker Willie Gay, who was limited again on Friday with a shoulder injury.

Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said this week has been focused on installing the Super Bowl game plan and keeping the players on a consistent routine.

“This week is huge because we’re treating this week just like we’re playing a game on Sunday, so today is like a typical Thursday practice for us, situational day, third down, short yardage, goal line,” Bieniemy said. “We’re practicing situations.”

The Eagles listed eight of their veteran starters as limited on Friday to provide them additional rest. The Eagles have listed five players with both injuries and rest designations this week. The group, headed by right tackle Lane Johnson, left guard Landon Dickersono and defensive end Robert Quinn, are all expected to be available next week.

The Chiefs will conduct another closed practice on Saturday before packing up and heading to Arizona.

“Tomorrow will be like a Friday practice where we do redzone and a review of everything,” Bieniemy said. “We’re treating it just like a typical game week as if we we’re playing on Sunday. And then next week we hit the reset button.”
