All Chiefs Full Participants in First Practice of AFC Championship Week

All Chiefs Full Participants in First Practice of AFC Championship Week

Matt Derrick January 22, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs posted a short injury report of just four names on Wednesday, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as they prepare to host the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

For Mahomes, a full participant with an ankle issue, appearing on the list is nothing new. He’s been consistently listed on the injury report since suffering a high-ankle sprain in the team’s Week 15 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Right tackle Jawaan Taylor (knee) and cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder) also remain on the injury report from last week. Interior offensive lineman Mike Caliendo (shoulder) was the only new addition to the list.

Dropping off the injury report from last week are left tackle defensive tackle Chris Jones (calf), D.J. Humphries (hamstring), cornerback Trent McDuffie (knee), running back Isiah Pacheco (rib), safety Chamarri Conner (shoulder), wide receiver Nikko Remigio (wrist) and running back Carson Steele (hip).

Also coming off the list is wide receiver Mecole Hardman, whom the Chiefs declined to restore to the active roster and will remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the team’s season.

Buffalo Woes

The Buffalo Bills had a much longer and more significant injury list on Wednesday with six defensive starters on the report, headlined by safety Taylor Rapp.

Rapp left Sunday’s 27-25 Bills’ victory over Baltimore with hip and back injuries. Coach Sean McDermott described Rapp’s injuries as “day-to-day.”

Starting cornerback Christian Benford was a limited participant and is in the concussion protocol. Linebacker Matt Milano is dealing with hamstring soreness, McDermott said. He’s also listed with a biceps injury but was a full participant despite that issue last week. Other starters on the injury report as full participants are defensive end Greg Rousseau (finger), safety Damar Hamlin (rib) and nickel back Taron Johnson (neck/shoulder).

Starting left tackle Dion Dawkins also did not practice due to an illness.
