KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shortly after the Chiefs’ second organized team activities (OTAs) in early June, quarterback Alex Smith will shift attention from his teammates to the community.
Smith is scheduled to host the inaugural Hy-Vee Alex Smith Football ProCamp presented by SunnyD at Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, Kan., from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 7-8, as announced Monday in a ProCamps Worldwide news release.
The camp, which is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8, is designed for participants to learn fundamental football skills through a variety of drills and stations.
Additionally, the attendees will have an opportunity to meet and interact with the Chiefs’ Pro Bowl quarterback, according to the release. Participants will also receive an autograph and team photo with Smith.
Smith will be on-site with local prep and college coaches. Parents and guests are afforded the opportunity to observe in designated areas, according to the organization’s official website.
ProCamps has “developed, managed, and operated sports camps and related events for professional athletes” since 1998, according to the organization’s website. Athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA and WPS have conducted camps in coordination with the organization.
ProCamps has previously worked with Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball coach Bill Self in Lawrence.
But Smith’s camp marks the first time the organization will be in the greater Kansas City area, ProCamps sales manager James Dowdall said in an email with ChiefsSpin.com.
The cost of Smith’s two-day camp is $149 ($120 when using a Citi card), according to the news release.
However, Dowdall said in an email a special promotion code is available that will save $15 by entering “Chiefs” during online registration.
