KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs gambled on Saturday they could keep all four of their quarterbacks from training camp, and on Sunday that moved paid off. Rookie quarterback Chase Litton is among players waived by the Chiefs on Saturday that make up the club's initial 10-player practice squad starting the regular season.

Other members of the practice squad include cornerback Arrion Springs, wide receiver Gehrig Dieter and safety Leon McQuay.

Litton and Matt McGloin battled for the No. 3 job throughout the offseason program and through training camp to the final play of the preseason. General manager Brett Veach said Saturday the team went back and forth on the decision before favoring the experience of McGloin in the quarterback room to help support starter Patrick Mahomes.

"Both those guys came in and did a great job and certainly we would be excited to potential to continue to work with Chase," Veach said.

Springs impressed immediately starting in rookie minicamp as a priority free agent from Oregon. But the Chiefs acquired fellow rookie Charvarius Ward from the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, pushing Springs off the 53-man roster. He returns to the practice squad along with D'Montre Wade, a free agent cornerback from Murray State. Together Springs and Wade along with sixth-round pick Tremon Smith made up the team's No. 2 cornerback group during camp.

Dieter and McQuay both spent time on the practice squad last season. McQuay earned a late season promotion to the active roster in 2017. He battled a hamstring injury early in training camp but returned to start the final preseason games at safety. Dieter turned in another promising preseason, finishing with five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Other practice squad members include:

OL Ryan Hunter, a 6-foot-3, 316-pound rookie free agent from Bowling Green and native of North Bay, Ontario, Canada; and

LB Rob McCray, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound rookie free agent from Indiana;

DL Dee Liner, a 6-foot-2, 334-pound rookie free agent from Arkansas State who started his collegiate career at Alabama;

C Jimmy Murray, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound rookie free agent from Holy Cross; and

WR Josh Crockett, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound rookie free agent from Central Oklahoma.
