Sammy Watkins, Eric Berry “Making Progress” with Injuries as Playoffs Loom

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs head toward Saturday's Divisional Playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts with a few notable injury concerns, but head coach Andy Reid on Monday didn't provide any improved clarity regarding the availability of receiver Sammy Watkins, safety Eric Berry and running back Spencer Ware.

“As far as injuries go, guys are making progress,” Reid said. “Sammy, Eric, Spence, they're all heading forward.”

Watkins hasn't played since Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams, and the Chiefs remain hopeful he can make a return during the postseason. Berry returned from his heel injury for two games in Week 15 and 16, but sat out the regular-season finale. Ware practiced in full during the final week of the regular season, but did not play against the Raiders.

Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and safety Jordan Lucas both left the Week 17 game against Oakland with injuries. Nnadi suffered a head injury and entered the league's concussion protocol while Lucas left the game with a stinger. Reid did not elaborate on those injuries, but underlined that the rest of roster appeared in good shape.

“Other than that really the rest of the guys are pretty good to go,” Reid said.

The Chiefs also have an open question remaining regarding offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. He's on injured reserve but remains in a three-week window during which he can practice with the club before returning to the active roster.

“Larry's making progress,” Reid said. “We've got a little bit of time here with Larry to see how he does this week. Not until after this game do we have to declare anything.”

The Chiefs have until Jan. 15 to return Duvernay-Tardif to the active roster or leave him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Reid's squad return to the practice field on Tuesday for their first official tuneup against the Colts, which is when the club must issue its preliminary injury report for the game.
