Injuries piling up among Chiefs starters in Saturday’s

Matt Derrick August 4, 2018

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A total of 10 Chiefs missed at least a portion of practice Saturday including two starters on both sides of the ball with linebacker Anthony Hitchens the latest headliner on the sidelines.

Hitchens sat practiced with a hamstring injury in his left leg. Reggie Ragland also remains on the non-football injury list with swelling in his right knee. Ukeme Eligwe and Terrance Smith took the first-team reps at inside linebacker with Hitchens and Ragland out.

Two offensive line starters also missed practice on Saturday. Left tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder) and left guard Cameron Erving (knee) both missed their first full practices since leaving practice early on Thursday. The Chiefs describe both injuries as a “tweak.” Andrew Wylie stepped into the left tackle role with the first-team offense while Bryan Witzmann filled in at left guard.

The starting quartet on the sideline makes up a growing list of Chiefs sitting out with the club’s preseason opener against the Houston Texans looming on Thursday night.

Safety Leon McQuay left practice early on Saturday with a hamstring injury. Linebacker Tanoh Kpassagnon (heel) and cornerback Keith Reaser (quad) were partial participants on Saturday.

Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (elbow), wide receiver Marcus Kemp (ankle) and running back Charcandrick West (concussion) also practice on Saturday. West remains the only player absent from practice not participating in rehab on the sidelines. He remains in the league’s concussion protocol.
