KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs offensive coaching staff will have another new face next season, with a report wide receiver and assistant head coach David Culley will depart to serve as quarterback coach for the Buffalo Bills.
Greg Lewis, who will work with the Chiefs coaching staff during this week’s Pro Bowl activities, will replace Culley, according to the report from Sporting News reporter Alex Marvez.
Cully joined Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia in 1999 and spent the last 18 years alongside Reid. He spent each of those seasons coaching wide receivers. He added the senior offensive assistant title to his role in 2010. Since joining the Chiefs, Culley has also served as assistant head coach.
The departure of Culley means a loss of significant experience in both the NFL and with Reid’s West Coast offensive style. The 61-year-old Culley first joined the college coaching ranks in 1978 and migrated to the NFL in 1994. Culley’s top pupils include current Washington receiver DeSean Jackson and Chiefs receiver Jeremy Maclin.
Lewis served as wide receiver coach for the Eagles in 2016. He played for Reid’s Eagles teams for six seasons from 2003 to 2008. Lewis collected 127 receptions for 1,699 yards with seven touchdowns with the Eagles while playing in 90 games with 23 starts.
The 36-year-old turned to coaching in 2012, and served stints as wide receivers coach in college for San Diego, San Diego State and Pittsburgh. He spent the 2015 season with the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant before joining the Eagles last season.
Reid’s coaching staff has featured very little turnover since his arrival in Kansas City. Culley’s departure marks the second coach to leave the staff this season. Assistant special teams coordinator Brock Olivo officially left Monday to join the Denver Broncos as special teams coordinator.
