KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs returned to the practice field Thursday in preparation for Monday night’s game with one All-Pro, but still down another.

Running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) was on the field participating in warm-ups and individual drills during the portion of practice open to the media.

The bad news surrounds strong safety Eric Berry, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 2’s game against the Denver Broncos.

“It’s kind of right where the high ankle component comes in along with the regular ankle sprain,” coach Andy Reid said of Berry after Thursday morning’s walkthrough session. “It looks like it’s leaning more to a high ankle sprain, which you just don’t know until you get into it.”

Reid adds Berry, who wasn’t on the practice field Thursday, is putting in the work and attempting “like crazy” to return to the lineup.

Meanwhile, Charles missed Week 3’s game after suffering his ankle injury in Week 2.

The Chiefs categorized the injury as a high ankle sprain, but Charles returned to the practice field for two days last week in a limited fashion.

Charles appears on track to be available Monday night against the New England Patriots barring a setback.

Rookie running back/wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (hamstring) also returned to the practice field Thursday. He injured his hamstring late in practice on Sept. 3 and hasn’t played in a regular season game.

Thomas participated in one practice in a limited fashion in the three days leading to Week 3’s game, but missed the final two days. The lone practice marked his first since suffering the hamstring injury.

The Chiefs will release the complete injury report with participation designations later Thursday afternoon following practice.
