SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid takes his squad into Super Bowl LVII with a roster as healthy as he could expect for the final game of the season with all 53 of his players putting in a full practice on Friday with no game-day injury designations.
“They all practiced, everybody practiced,” Reid told pool reporter Conor Orr. “I feel pretty good about ‘em.”
That includes cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who was a limited participant on Thursday with a knee issue. He was listed as a full go in the 66-minute workout.
“He had a lot of snaps today, he had quite a few snaps today, which was good,” Reid said. “And I think he came out good, too.”
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) and receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring) all appear ready to play with little if any restrictions on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“The guys worked hard, did their thing,” Reid said.
Friday is normally a 10-10-10 practice for the Chiefs, and the final workout session before the Super Bowl was no exception. The format provides 10 plays for the offense, 10 plays for the defense and special teams periods. Friday is red zone day for the Chiefs, too, and Reid has stuck to the routine as much as possible this week to keep his team comfortable and relaxed in a high-pressure atmosphere.
The Chiefs have until 3 p.m. central time Saturday to decided if they will make any practice squad elevations. Elevating wide receiver Marcus Kemp is a distinct likelihood with the Chiefs needing extra depth at receiver and to add experience to the special teams unit. The Chiefs have also elevated offensive line Austin Reiter and receier Ihmir Smith-Marsette during the postseason but have not actived either player on game day.
Between now and Sunday the Chiefs have a walkthrough on Saturday but otherwise Reid plans on continuing to study before kickoff at 5:30 p.m. central time Sunday.
“It’s like when you’re studying for finals, you’ve exhausted everything and then you get to a point where you’re like ‘this is what it is,’” Reid said. “This is where we’re at. This is the best I’ve got. That way you don’t have to look back and say: ‘I wish I would have.’”
The Eagles also enter Sunday’s game with a relatively light injury report. Receiver and return specialist Britian Covey was the only player limited in Friday’s practice and is questionable due to a hamstring injury. Starting right tackle Lane Johnson (groin/rest) and left guard Landon Dickerson (elbow/rest) returned to a full workload on Friday after being limited earlier in this week.
Much as Reid has aimed to do this week, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni plans to keep his team’s schedule as close to normal as is possible for Super Bowl weekend. That includes spending time with his family after his wife and three children along with extended family arrived in Arizona, he told pool reporter Lindsay Jones.
“I go home at 4 o’clock on a Friday and hang with them,” Sirianni said. “And I’ll hang with them on Saturday, because that’s my normal routine.”
